OHES veterans18 2Oak Hill Elementary School would like to thank Scott Gilliland and his family for the presentation he gave about his time served in the US Army and National Guard. Scott graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1997.

Several months before graduating, he had enlisted into the United States Army and shortly after graduating, Scott was on his way to Fort Knox, Kentucky where he'd spend the next three months going through Army's basic training course. After completion of basic training, Scott attended advanced training in Aberdeen, Maryland. Upon completion of advanced training, he was assigned to Fort Richardson, an Army base located near Anchorage, Alaska where he spent the next three years and eight months training in Alaska and throughout the world. Scott deployed to nine different countries on various peace keeping missions. He was an expert in marksmanship, completed the Army's Air Assault course where he learned to rappel out of helicopters and was awarded various military medals.

Upon completion of his active duty commitment, he had decided to change course in life and enrolled into the University of Rio Grande where he would later obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science. At this same time, he extended his military enlistment and joined the Ohio National Guard. Scott served on active duty for four and half years and then an additional six years in the National Guard. He now works as Registered Nurse at the Chillicothe VA Hospital. He is deeply connected to the military and veteran community. Scott genuinely appreciates the sacrifices of every past and present military service member.
