2025 Jackson County Sportsman Federation Scholarship

(In Memory of Eric L. Shipman)

  • Three $1,000 College Scholarships for Jackson County High School Seniors (man or woman)
  • Open to any Major and College
  • Awarded by Essay

Requirements for the Scholarship:

  1. Complete an essay describing a hunting, fishing, trapping or outdoor experience you have had.
  2. Must attach a copy of your Ohio Hunting or Fishing License; or Hunter Education Card to the application.
  3. Return packet (application, essay and copy of Ohio Hunting/Fishing License or Hunter Education Card) to: Lee Van Allen, 2839 Whaleytown Road, Jackson, OH 45640.
  4. Packet must be postmarked by April 1, 2025.

Jackson Co. Farmers Club Scholarship

Jackson County Farmers Club Scholarship

To assist young Jackson County residents continue their efforts to become self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society through post-secondary education, the Jackson County Farmers Club has established a scholarship program to be awarded to a deserving graduating senior or a student already pursuing post-secondary education. The scholarship is for a total of $500 for a two or four year program provided the student maintains a 2.5 GPA. The scholarship will be awarded after the completion of the applicant's first semester.

The following considerations will be given in the selection of the scholarship recipient:

  1. Applicant must reside in Jackson County.
  2. Applicant must have an application on file in the Office of Admissions of the college of their choice at the time of submission.
  3. Applicant should have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA (based on a 4.0 scale) in high school.
  4. Participation in school and community activities and evidence of leadership will be taken into consideration.
  5. The scholarship must be used toward a degree in an agricultural related field of study and at a college or university that is accredited by the North Central Association or similar organization in other regions. Note: Priority will be given to agricultural related fields of study; however, if no applications are submitted meeting that criteria, consideration will be given to applicants who have a strong agricultural background (4-H, FFA, raised on a farm, etc.) but not pursuing a degree in an agricultural related field of study.

Completed scholarship application form typed or legibly printed in black ink.

  1. One portrait photo mounted in the space provided on the application form.
  2. One official transcript of high school grades including ACT scores.
  3. At least one letter of recommendation from a high school teacher and/or guidance counselor.

COAD Scholarship

The 2025 Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD) / David V. Stivison Appalachian Community Action Scholarship Fund

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of the 30-county COAD service area for a least on year before the application deadline.
  • Reside in a household with a total annual income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.
  • Have obtained or will obtain a high school degree or GED.
  • Show proof of acceptance by an accredited 2-year or 4-year institution of higher education.

Applications must be submitted to the appropriate COAD-member Community Action Agency:  Jackson-Vinton C.A.A., 118 South New York Ave., Wellston, Ohio 45692. Counties: Jackson & Vinton.

Deadline: The completed application must be submitted (postmarked) to the appropriate Community Action Agency (see above) by May 1, 2025.

Jackson Co. Cattlemen's Assoc. Scholarship

Jackson County Cattlemen's Association Scholarship

In order to help young people, continue their efforts toward becoming self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society, the Jackson County Cattlemen’s Association (JCCA) has established a scholarship, which will be awarded to a deserving young adult. This $500 scholarship is available to a minimum of one Jackson County student who is a graduating high school senior or currently enrolled college student. Previous scholarship winners are not eligible.

CRITERIA FOR BASIS OF AWARD

The following consideration will be given in the selection of a scholarship recipient:
  1. He/she should have a 2.5 cumulative GPA in high school or college.
  2. Consideration will be given toward the participation of the student in civic and co-curricular activities.
  3. Students should demonstrate an agricultural background and/or involvement in 4-H and/or FFA.
  4. Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree of an agricultural nature.

Applicants for a scholarship must complete and submit to the JCCA Board of Directors:

  1. Completed scholarship application form, typed, or legibly printed in black ink.
  2. One portrait in the space provided on the application form.
  3. One official transcript of grades.
  4. A letter of recommendation.

Scholarships will be presented at the 2025 Jackson County Fair. Recipients will be notified of day and time to attend. Winning recipients will receive their Scholarship check after proof is provided to the association of successful completion of their first semester of higher education.
